A Sports Revolution: Early Learning in Sport

A sports revolution is happening.  Today, an estimated 5 million children under six years old participate in organized youth sports annually.  Once anomalies of sport that have been discounted, overlooked and grossly under-appreciated for generations by sports researchers and professional sports organizations, early learners are now one of the fastest growing segments of the sports world.

As the numbers of early learners in sports rise, gradually society has begun to more accept the developmental opportunities sports offers to young children.  Today, there is more information about early learning programs and their outcomes that have become available.  Society, once early learning in sports' biggest critic, is now finding embedded within these programs are good old fashion family values.

Parents, once thought to be pushing their own personal agendas onto children through sport, are actually being recognized as valuable part of the early learning in sport process.  In many cases, they participate right alongside their children building important family bonds by learning how to speak the same sports language, celebrate small wins together and enjoy the fun of shared learning experiences.
